Words ARE Spells, and the J alliteration of Journal and Jamaica gives this new name a very Joyful Jubilee feel...which is so much more YOU than the quiet softness of simple and mindful. I love it! Words are Spells approved!

I'm so excited to know that you are looking forward to reading, dear Teyani! It's truly an honor to have you in this space with me. 🫂We took this photo a few months ago when we went out to dinner at the Bayview Eco Resort here in Portland. The food is good, and the price is actually reasonable for locals to eat there which is such a treat! No matter where we go, we always find ways to laugh, smile, and enjoy being together. Contentment is the greatest wealth for true 🩵☮️🪷

Hey Deanna. You always put a smile on my face no matter what. I can't wait to read what you write about the time you got arrested for being a witch (LMAO)!!!! Hope you are having a great week. Talk soon.

Hey Deanna!

I always love your readings, and look forward to future writings. A little disappointed to hear that more things will start to be held behind a paywall, since I had always loved that previous posts had promised “my content is and always will be free”. I love keeping up with you even when I fail at more personal communications as life continues to run 5 million miles a minute the last 12 months for me (I hope to update you when I finally make it to the other side of all that!)! That being said, I’m glad you are updating your entry style to ensure it is the type of content that fulfills you, and I will continue to be a dedicated reader of any content that remains free! Your newsletter is always a welcome bright spot and a treat I always enjoy when it pops up in my inbox! Sending love 💜

I understand the live sessions and such requiring an investment, and agree with that approach - I mainly only take advantage of written style posts and personally haven’t chosen to make the shift to paid readership, across the board- though some of my other very favorite creators also charge small fees for their written content on substack ($8/month or $60/yr) but I continue to enjoy their free content instead. The shift to paid “person to person”readership seems to be a fairly recent phenomenon alongside rising costs everywhere else, as you’ve mentioned. It is not my favorite shift, though I do believe creators deserve to be paid. I know on other platforms where content is free to consumers/readers, this is accomplished mainly via ads, so there is always a trade off. I suppose the disappointment is more around the consistent promise that your content would always remain free, which was a promise I have always appreciated and valued. That being said, I greatly respect your choice to do what feels aligned to your goals, and know that all of us are always changing and evolving. I wish you much success on this new endeavor, and look forward to enjoying any free content you may choose to sprinkle in as part of your future model! 💜

It's such an honor and a blessing that you are here on this journey with me, Becca, and you have been since the beginning. I value your presence and readership so much! I innerstand the disappointment around some more paywalls 😔 one reason for this is to protect my privacy when I share sensitive stories from Jamaica because I still live here and everyone knows everyone (it's a safety issue). While I innerstand that not everyone has the financial ability to pay for creative work like mine, I do still need to eat and pay my bills just like everyone else, and I feel that offering valuable content, including live sessions with me each month (plus 4 seasonals, so that's 16 90 minute sessions with me in one year), for just $8 USD/month is pretty reasonable for a lot of people (I was just in California and ONE sandwich cost more than that 🤦🏽). Heck, a 90-minute massage with me in Jamaica is the same as 3 years of an annual subscription for my work here on Substack! 3. years.

With all of that said, I value every reader who takes the time to read my work because this world is saturated with information in every form, and I don't take it lightly when someone chooses to give their precious time and attention to what I'm sharing. Thank you again for being here and witnessing the evolution of Deanna as a creative, and the changes to this publication that go along with it. A deep bow and a lotus of kindness and compassion for you, dear Becca 🙏🏽🪷

Thank you so much, Cara! I'm looking forward to sharing more, too! I really love this kind of crazy likkle island, and it's my wish to spread that love and dispel the rumors that it's incredibly dangerous here. Not true! Of course, there are dangerous places, but that is the case everywhere. Give thanks for being here and taking the time to read and connect. You made my day! 🫂🩵☮️🌻

You are blessed! Years of teaching retreats in Treasure Beach have imprinted my heart. The people most of all. Those beautiful, sunny people. Oh and the calaloo! My favorite veggie ever!

I will be back. And yes, will let you know! And lucky you to have a chef in the house. Just this morning I saw a local farm in Maine is growing red amaranth which I guess is a type of callaloo. I actually yelped with excitement.
